Wednesday started out very positive with a good outlook on the day. I had a plan; AM coffee with a friend, work (still sleepy in the morning), walk and then dinner. The first few items, checked off the list, I was looking forward to the walk with the daughter. We delivered some graduation invites and actually walked more than 2 miles. Due to the delivery delays, out pace wasn’t so hot. But, I had fantastic company and I enjoyed the banter with my child. 2.3 miles down tonight and I felt great being outside.
The funny thing about challenges, is that it does take a lot of personal commitment to hold yourself to something. We can say it all the time, you have to hold yourself accountable. Do you know how fucking hard that is to do on a daily basis? Sure, there are MANY things that we “do” because we have to do them to survive; sleep, eat, use the bathroom, etc. But a challenge around something that isn’t a necessity is hard. Exercise, not drink/smoke, anything else that isn’t a requirement is hard. You are your own judge and jury. No one will know but you. You could easily lie and say, YUP, I did it, here you go. Deep down though, no one can call you out. Your self gratification and self perseverance are the things YOU need to strive and find for yourself. I think there are about a gazillion books out there that people have written to try and coach us awesome folks on how to achieve this goal.
Let me let you in a little secret, there isn’t a book that can teach you. It is you. You are the only one that can find this for yourself. It’s different for everyone. It’s inside you, you have to find it. Easy to talk about and easy to say you will do, but let me tell you, it is not easy. Anyone that can tell you that it is, is a liar.
How is that for the thought of the day?
